OSMO Polyx Oil (Hardwax Oil) satin is a durable, low maintenance, satin, food safe oil and wax finish for interior timber or cork flooring, as well as timber furniture including baby's cots, bassinets and playpens. Also suitable for exposed timber beams, sarking, paneling and timber benchtops. Suitable for a variety of timber types - both hardwood and softwood - such as Pine, Rimu, Kauri, Macrocarpa, Oak, Beech, Eucalyptus, Jarrah and Douglas Fir (Oregon).  Polyx Oil satin, once fully cured, will not crack, flake, peel, blister or water mark and is stain resistant against wine, beer, cola, coffee, tea, fruit juices, milk and water.

As durable as polyurethane, and far easier to repair when scratched or worn down.Easy to apply, with 2 thin coats being applied 12 - 24 hours apart. Sanding in between coats is generally not necessary. Application can be by roller or brush, however a brush is OSMO's recommended applicator. Ensure your brush is a new, good quality bristle brush. (OSMO's 220mm floor brush is ideal). If using a roller, make sure the sleeve is micro fibre with a nap of no more than 5mm. Care should be taken to limit the amount of oil held in the roller, otherwise over application can result.

The coverage rate of Polyx Oil is exceptional at around 24 square metres per litre. That means a 10 litre can will cover approximately 240 square metres with one coat, or 120 square metres with 2 coats. That equates to a cost of $7.20 per square metre.

Timbers which have a high resin content - such as Matai - require a different finishing process. Some Matai is full of resin, and some Matai contains very little. The resin will slow down the drying time of the Polyx Oil. (In Matai with a high resin content, it can take up to 14 days for the oil to cure). If your Matai contains little or no resin, it should dry normally (i.e. touch dry within 8 - 12 hours) when coated with Polyx Oil. We suggest doing a test first to determine suitablility. If the Polyx Oil is not dry after 2-3 days, then we recommend using either OSMO Woodwax Clear Extra Thin as the initial priming coat to dilute the resin and drive it away from the timber's surface, followed by 2 coats of Polyx Oil or applying 2 coats of Polyx Oil satin which have been thinned 50:50 with Citrus Turpentine, followed by one coat of Polyx Oil satin. For timbers which are oily by nature, such as Totara, Kwila/Merbau and Rosewood etc, it is recommended that the timber's surface be wiped over with a solvent such as citrus turpentine to remove any oil present, before applying the Polyx Oil satin.

Easy to maintain with any plant based soap such as OSMO's Wash and Care for damp mopping, and OSMO's Liquid Wax Cleaner for buffing the timber when needed.

Polyx Oil satin is available in 2 types - Normal or Rapid. Normal Polyx Oil would generally be used during the warmer summer months, and is dry in approximately 24 hours. The Rapid Polyx Oil should only be used in cold, winter conditions where there is snow or frost etc, or where - because of the cold, - curing time may be an issue. Generally, the Rapid Polyx Oil will cure faster, with 2 coats able to be applied on the same day. The finish for both products is identical.
